Gift Card Products
To sell gift cards, you create a product and mark it as a gift card product. The gift card settings are in the Gift card tab of the product.
Create a gift card product
- Go to Catalogues > Products and create a new product, e.g. "Gift card".
- Fill in the required fields. The price doesn't matter: the amount of the gift card is set in the Gift card tab. Choose the tax rate you want for a single-purpose voucher (see VAT treatment).
- Save the product.
- Open the Gift card tab and switch on Is gift card product. The other settings below appear.
- Save the product again.
A gift card product is always added to the cart with quantity 1 and is never out of stock.

Fixed value
The gift card always has the Gift card amount you enter. The product page shows this amount.
Flexible
The buyer types an amount on the product page. Set the Minimum amount, Default amount and Maximum amount. Amounts outside the minimum and maximum are corrected to the nearest limit. When they are empty, the minimum is 0 and the maximum is 500.
Selection of amounts
The buyer picks one of the Amounts you enter, e.g. 25, 50 and 100. Type an amount and press Enter to add it. The amounts are shown from low to high, and the Default amount is selected first (or the lowest amount, when the default isn't in the list).
Before 7.3.0, a choice of amounts needed a variant per amount. Use Selection of amounts instead. Existing variant setups still work: set each variant to Fixed value with its own amount.
The amounts are in the currency of the sales channel the customer shops in.
VAT treatment
Choose how VAT works for this gift card.
Multi-purpose voucher (default)
The gift card is sold without VAT. The VAT is due when the gift card is redeemed, on the products it pays for. Use this when the gift card can be spent on products with different VAT rates, or by customers in other countries. This needs the calculation type Means of payment in the plugin configuration.
Single-purpose voucher
The gift card is sold with the tax rate of this product. When it is redeemed, it lowers the VAT of the order. Only use this when the VAT is known when the gift card is bought: all your products have this tax rate and you sell in one country. It doesn't suit shops that sell to businesses in other EU countries (reverse charge) or outside the EU, as those buyers get the gift card without VAT.
Whether a gift card is a multi-purpose or a single-purpose voucher depends on your products and your customers. Ask your tax advisor which one applies to your shop.
Gift card design
Choose the Template of the PDF that the buyer receives. Manage designs opens the gift card designer.
Simple
A portrait page with your image, the code and the PDF Logo of the plugin configuration. Upload the image in Design (best size: 1040 × 650 px).
Just for you
A landscape "Gift voucher – Just for you" page with empty To and From lines, the code, the code as a barcode and the PDF Logo of the plugin configuration. Choose the Background color and Foreground color. The texts of this template are in English and can't be changed; create your own design to change them or to print the personalisation.
Your own designs
Every design you created in Content > Gift card designs is listed here as well.
Gift card validity
Defines how long a gift card can be used after it is created. The expiry date is shown on the balance page and in the Administration, and an expired gift card can't be redeemed.
Infinite (default)
The gift card never expires.
Days
The gift card expires a number of days after it is created. Example: 365 → one year after creation. 0 means the gift card never expires.
Advanced
Describe the expiry date with a relative date, in PHP's relative formats. Examples:

Advanced configuration
Physical gift card
No e-mail is sent and no PDF is generated. Use this for printed gift cards that you ship yourself. The gift card and its code are still created, so you can find the code in Orders > Gift cards.
Buyers can personalise the gift card
Shows the fields For (recipient name), From (sender name) and Personal message (up to 500 characters) on the product page. For digital gift cards, the buyer can also enter the E-mail address of the recipient: the gift card is then e-mailed to the recipient instead of the buyer. See Delivery.
Buyers can choose when the gift card is sent
Only for digital gift cards that can be personalised. Adds a Send on date field to the product page, from tomorrow up to a year ahead. The gift card is e-mailed on that day. This needs the scheduled tasks of Shopware to run.
Filename
The name of the PDF attached to the gift card e-mail and downloaded in My Account, e.g. giftcard.pdf.
Dynamic product groups and rules
- In Dynamic product groups, filter on Gift card to find gift card products, e.g. to leave them out of a promotion.
- In the Rule builder, the condition Line item of type has the option Gift card, which matches gift card products in the cart.
